Professional Sports and Politics

Hi Everyone!

You’re probably saying to yourself, “What?! How did these two subjects get put together??”

EXACTLY.

I love sports. I played sports in high school and college. My favorites are baseball, basketball, and football, but I really love it all. I played baseball the longest, and my love for baseball is the strongest . . . but I love it all.

Why? Well, I always said that sports were a microcosm of life. Every game has its ups and downs, its drama and usually some comedy too. Some of you remember the “Wide World of Sports”, where in the intro they always said, “It’s the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat . . .” Indeed. Just like life itself.

I am going to confine my comments today to professional sports, because professional sports are businesses at the same time they are sports. For some reason the players (and owners) in the professional sports world have forgotten they are in the business of providing sports entertainment to their audience. That is their business. They are NOT in the business of providing political statements or furthering their own political agenda while they are on the field. NOBODY who is truly a sports fan wants to witness anything other than the entertainment they are paying for when watching sports . . . PERIOD.

Let me give you an analogy that any ten year old can understand: OG’s Truth.

If you have a job (in this case as an entertainer in professional sports), it’s no different than anyone else having a job in any other walk of life. Waiter, lawyer, postal carrier, financial advisor, retail clerk, etc., etc., etc. Is it in ANY WAY appropriate, say, as a waiter while taking an order for dinner, to start pontificating about your political views concerning what matters to you politically? Or stating to your customers that ,”You either agree with me or I’m not going to serve you . . .”(woke agenda)? Quite simply, it’s not your job. Sorry, but IT’S NOT YOUR JOB. Your job is to serve the customer.

A player on a sports team has the job of simply showing up and playing the sport to the best of his or her ability (see how politically correct I was there with his/her!). In your venue, WE DON’T WANT TO HEAR OR SEE YOUR POLITICAL VIEWPOINT. JUST PLAY THE GAME. After the game, in your spare time (like the rest of us) you can point to your viewpoint on any subject you want. If you are a famous player and make sense, some people might even listen. But on the field, JUST PLAY THE GAME. There’s plenty of time off the field to let us all know how you “feel”.

Back to the waiter . . . because now it’s also about the business and the ownership. If I was an owner of that restaurant, and I had a waiter do what he/she did, I WOULD FIRE THAT PERSON. You’re hurting my business, embarrassing me in front of my customers, and not doing your job.

Sports team owners need to listen to this . . . GET RID OF PLAYERS WHO DON’T WANT TO DO THEIR JOBS. They are no different than anyone else in the world who have a job to do. Do your job, or you’re gone. And your job is NOT to give your political views while working (Colin Kaepernick).

So I have a consequence for you, players and owners who have lost sight of what your job is: YOU’RE FIRED until you quit mixing politics with sports. It’s disgusting. In spite of my love for sports, you have mishandled and mistreated your customer, and you’re fired.

I hope my readers will fire you too. Maybe if you start doing your job again, and not mixing politics with your job, I’ll give you a second chance. But for now, I’M NOT WATCHING YOU ANYMORE.

OG’s Truth

P.S. Take “Black Lives Matter”, that Marxist organization’s slogan, off the professional basketball courts. Black lives do matter (as do all lives), but the hateful organization “Black Lives Matter” doesn’t matter. They are a terrorist cult, and don’t really care about black lives (or any lives for that matter).
